The Tilapia Aquaculture Developers Association of Nigeria (TADAN), has announced its readiness for the first harvest of the year. With barely three weeks into the New Year, TADAN has declared that the first set of tilapia fishes are set for the market.

 

The harvest ceremony is billed for tomorrow – the 23rd of January – at the Ikere Gorge Dam, Ikere, Iseyin, Oyo State, Nigeria. In a two-pronged manner, the harvest is also expected to be greeted with the “Tilapia in Cages”, a new initiative the association is aiming to promote.

 

In a statement released by the group, signed by National Secretary of the association, Adedeji Fatai Abiodun, the association is launching the Tilapia in cages to develop the trade and also lend credence to the diversification of the economy.

 

“It is the first initiative by the Tilapia Aquaculture Developers Association, Nigeria (TADAN), formed to promote the culture of Tilapia in cages in our abundant water body in the country.  This is in line with the development of diversification of our resources and income as a nation.

 

“With this initiative we hope our association can be in the forefront to stimulate self-sufficiency in fish and export of fish. This will save some of the foreign exchange and create more employment in its entire value chain”, the statement says.

 

As part of plans to ensure the Tilapia in cages initiative run hitch free, TADAN has been in a working relationship with front line feed outfit, Grand Cereal Plc.

 

“This is a result of the collaboration on feed trials with Grand Cereal PLC with the members of Tilapia Aquaculture Developers Association, members as represented by Choice Fisheries Consult and Amolese Aquaculture Nig. Ltd”, the statement reads.
