In view of the ongoing wave of global recognition being gained by Nigerian agriculture which has subsequently led to the development of international partnerships and growth of the sector, Mr. Fabian Odum was recently recognized as the Nigerian Agriculture Awards 2014 – Agro Journalist of the Year for his exceptional commitment and resilience in reporting the activities and achievements of the sector.

According to Mr. Odum while giving his acceptance speech at the maiden edition of the prestigious event which held in Lagos State, commented that quality agriculture reportage was in actuality predominant in the rural areas other than the city because the bulk of agricultural activities were being carried out in those regions, while urging his colleagues in the media industry to head out to the rural areas to get information and help circulate the needs of the rural people for the advancement of the sector.

Presently a reporter with The Guardian – a leading independent Nigerian newspaper which he joined in the year 1999, he dedicated his award to all his media colleagues in the business of agriculture reportage while attributing his current achievement in the industry as a result of divine benevolence and enablement.

He further declared his commitment to the promotion of the sector which he believes would replace  crude-oil in generating national revenue following the drop in its market value, hence his drive which has led to his traversing the far-ends of the country to bring to the fore – issues and advancements as well as promoting local players in the process.
