Agriculture is pertinent for a successful revamping of the Nigerian Economy in the face of the current economic recession. To achieve this lofty objective, stakeholders are in agreement that a new development paradigm needs to be evolved for the sector. Accordingly, the current paradigm which emphasises a centrally driven strategy needs to give way to one that is sub-nationally driven. The South West Agricultural Summit (SWAS) is therefore a direct offshoot of this school of thought and it is the first in a series of geo-economic based convocations across the country, seeking to emphasis the need for States and Local Governments to join forces with their Federal counterpart in repositioning Nigerian agriculture.
