Borne out of the commitment to ensure that the Nigeria’s agricultural sector takes a turn for sustainable growth and development, the AgroNigeria Town Hall Meeting (ATHM) was developed to provide stakeholders with a platform to ventilate their challenges and make recommendations for the sector’s growth.

At present, AgroNigeria – Nigeria’s Agricultural Mouthpiece – has succeeded in covering four out of the six geo-political zones of the Federation.

The ATHM ship which has gained tremendous feedback from participants with visible impact is scheduled to port in Benin-City, the Edo State capital, on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Imaguero College Hall, Sapele Road at 11am.

This event will be the 5th in the series, following its successful hosting in Kano, Ilorin, Enugu and Ibadan. The meeting is meant to serve as a basis to garner insight that would drive policy formulation and implementation at the level of governance – Local, State and Federal.

This ATHM is being organised by AgroNigeria, in collaboration with the Edo State Government.AgroNigeriaTHM

It would be recalled that the outbreak of Tuta Absoluta-a highly devastating tomato disease- otherwise christened, ‘Tomato Ebola’, which ravaged tomato crop in the Northern part of the country led AgroNigeria to, as a matter of urgency, call the stakeholders’ intervention meeting, in order to deliberate on how to curb the scourge, so as to safe Nigeria’s tomatoes from going into extinction.

AgroNigeria is presently compiling the reports of its meetings to be forwarded to the Presidency, the National Assembly and other appropriate authorities for actionable steps.

The meeting has since attracted the government and key players in the industry with major issues being played up and recommendations made, which hopefully will alleviate the plight of the stakeholders and the nation at large if taken into consideration.

It is pertinent to stress here that the ATHM has started yielding positive results as the Kano State Government, in reaction to the AgroNigeria Intervention meeting held in Kano, recently inaugurated a 12-man Innovation Platform on Tomato Value Chain Development to curb the waste of enormous tons of tomatoes being produced in State and to encourage investment in its production, processing, marketing and export.
